Development of a novel on-board sensing system for AGVs by means of omni-directional stereo camera system and enhanced laser scanner algorithms.
Today’s sensor system of the AGV is quite limited and mainly used for safety purposes. For example no distinction can be made between a human close to a rack and the rack itself. Technologies like cameras, utilized in many industrial applications, are seldom used. Main reasons are the environmental conditions in factories and the poor reliability to measure distances.
The aim of PAN-Robots is a novel sensor system that combines accurate range measurements and a large field of view. Furthermore, improved object tracking and classification of e.g. humans based on laser scanner data will be developed.
